The magic, feats, and adventures of one of the world’s most famous saints will be brought to life at a free family event on Saturday, at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life. Award-winning storyteller Rab Fulton will be at the museum at Turlough Park, Castlebar, to deliver two captivating storytelling performances celebrating St Patrick, at 11.30am and 2pm.

The National Library of Ireland (NLI) has announced that Galway County Council’s website Decade of Commemoration was one of the ten winning websites, chosen by the public, which they believe best record Irish life in 2016 and remember the events of 1916. The websites will be preserved in the NLI’s National Web Archive and were announced by Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD, at an award ceremony in the Library’s historic Kildare Street.

Minister of State for Justice at the Department of Justice and Equality with special responsibility for Equality, Immigration, and Integration, David Stanton, is to launch the West of Ireland Traveller History Project at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar today, October 21.

To mark Culture Night this year, the Museum of Country Life in Turlough Park will host a talk on The Vikings on the Atlantic Coast of Ireland. The talk will be given by Eamon P. The effervescent family festival Féile na Tuaithe 2016 came to a close at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life two weeks ago. It was a rollercoaster weekend, with more than 20,000 visitors joining in a joyful celebration of country life and everything associated with it. Féile na Tuaithe, which takes place Turlough Park, is one of the biggest free family festivals in the west and it returns to the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life outside Castlebar on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 from 12 noon to 5pm both days. Entry and car parking are free of charge and bumper crowds of up to 30,000 are expected over the two day event. All elements in Féile have a direct connection with the exhibitions within the museum itself which showcases traditional country life since the 19th century.
